Alison is a mixed media artist based near Tetbury, in the heart of the Cotswolds’ rolling hills. A native of England, she draws inspiration from the wild, diverse beauty of the natural world surrounding her. Her work often celebrates the organic forms found in nature, which she sometimes reimagines into fantastical creatures and plants, blending the real with the whimsical. Her creative process is intuitive and spontaneous — she frequently begins with playful experimentation that reveals a subject as she works. This open-ended approach means she never quite knows what will emerge, giving her art a sense of vitality and unpredictability that she finds both rewarding and creatively liberating. As a result, her portfolio is wonderfully eclectic, encompassing animals, botanicals, landscapes, still life, and abstract compositions. Alison enjoys the flexibility of mixed media, often combining acrylic paint with collage — an art form she believes is both underappreciated and immensely versatile. She delights in exploring textures, layers, and unexpected juxtapositions through this medium. Though art has always been a part of her life — her mother was also an artist — Alison originally trained and worked as a dentist. Her career was cut short by mercury poisoning following an in-surgery spill. Determined to heal, she retrained as a naturopath, and, after facing several serious health challenges — including a couple of life-threatening accidents — she has now returned to art in retirement, energised by the opportunity to fully immerse herself in creativity. Her health remains fragile but is far stronger than she once believed possible. Alison’s goal is to create bold, joyful artwork that uplifts and enlivens any space. Her playful, exploratory spirit is at the heart of her process — and she hopes it shines through in every piece she creates. In autumn 2024, she held a solo exhibition titled 'A Sense of Place' at Tetbury Goods Shed, Tetbury, Gloucestershire, showcasing nearly 90 pieces that reflect her unique vision and vibrant approach to life and art. Tetbury, Gloucestershire. She is currently preparing for a solo exhibition at the Corinium Museum Art Gallery in the historic Roman city of Cirencester in Gloucestershire.
